"the golden child" (2019) | Enamel Pin

My mother projected a lot of success onto me throughout childhood. I was put on a high pedestal which affected my habit of perfectionism. Part of my depression came as a result of this parental pressure to be great. The pin serves as a symbol of my self-authentication–only I can influence my worth. It utilizes my side profile and signature beanie— which provides historical context towards the Phrygian hat; a symbol of liberty during the French Revolution.
